What It Does
Add the things in your life that expire, and renewly tells you before they do. A passport, car insurance, the MOT, a domain name, a warranty, a gym membership, Netflix. One list, sorted by what is closest.
Why We Built It
Every subscription tracker on Android has the same two problems.
The first is scope. They track recurring payments and nothing else, but the renewals that actually hurt are not subscriptions. Missing Netflix costs ten euro. Missing a passport renewal costs a holiday.
The second is trust. The big trackers want to link your bank account, and in hands-on testing they still miss a third of your subscriptions. You end up granting the most sensitive permission there is and getting an incomplete answer for it.
renewly does neither. You tell it what matters, it never asks for your bank, and it covers anything with a date on it.
The Build
Expo and React Native with on-device SQLite. Pure date and urgency logic sits in its own layer with no React and no database imports, so the screen you look at and the reminder scheduler can never disagree about when something is due.
Reminders are local notifications. There is no server, no push service, and no account, which is also why there is nothing to breach.
A Deliberate Technical Choice
Android gates precise alarms behind permissions that Google Play restricts to alarm, timer and calendar apps. renewly declares neither of them.
A reminder that says "your passport expires in 30 days" does not need to fire at an exact second, so an inexact alarm is the correct engineering answer rather than a compromise. The tradeoff is that the system may defer delivery by a few hours, which is irrelevant inside a 30 day warning. The app itself, not the notification, is the source of truth: the home screen always shows exactly what is due, so a late notification degrades the experience but never loses anything.
Privacy By Construction
No account, no backend, no analytics, no ads. Release builds have the
INTERNET permission stripped at build time, so the app cannot send your data
anywhere even by accident. The only permissions are the one that shows
notifications and the one that restores your reminders after a reboot.
Current State
In development. Code complete and building in CI, pending device testing and a first release on Google Play.
